Edibles: Can You Tell The Difference?

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine highlights how the hidden risks of cannabis edibles extend beyond oral health to serious systemic emergencies. Our dentists and kids’ dentists want to share this ALERT about the danger of accidental ingestion of these edibles.
As some edibles try to emulate shapes, flavours and smells of regular foods, they could be accidentally eaten by children and the elderly. These age groups who are more vulnerable to the effects of edibles and may experience cannabis poisoning. The consequences of this can be serious and life-threatening. "We've seen kids with seizures, kids who stopped breathing" said Dr. Yaron Finkelstein, a senior author of the study and staff physician at SickKids Hospital in Toronto.
If you have edibles at home, they should be locked away like medicine. Make sure to store them away from kids and to label them properly.
