Marijuana May Relax You, But Don’t Use it Before Going to The Dentist

Before undergoing dental procedures that require anaesthesia “freezing”, our dentists and dental team warn that it is important to avoid the use of marijuana (smoking, vaping, edibles, etc.). Both marijuana and “freezing” affect the central nervous system, and depending on how much marijuana is consumed, it can compromise the effectiveness of anaesthesia, leading to an uncomfortable procedure.
According to Dr. Patricia Silva, DDS at By The Lake Dental, “In addition to affecting how your body responds to anesthesia, marijuana can increase the risk of bleeding and complications after procedures such as cleanings, root canals, fillings, extractions and implants. DO NOT USE marijuana, whether smoking or eating, on the day of your appointment.”
If you have consumed marijuana prior to your appointment, let our dentists and dental team know. At our dental clinic, we are committed to providing you the safest and most pain-free dental experience. To ensure this, we may need to reschedule your procedure to prevent any negative complications resulting from marijuana use.
